Driven to Purpose: Stanton Barrett on Wine, Risk, and the Art of Reinvention

If you want to understand Stanton Barrett, you have to look beyond the stunt reels and racetracks. You’ll have to follow him in the vineyard and have a conversation with him.

Barrett’s story isn’t just about wine. It’s about risk. Reinvention. And the unlikely intersection of high-speed crashes, Hollywood fight choreography, and the quiet focus required to guide grapes from vine to bottle.

Known as a professional race car driver and elite stuntman with over 300 films to his credit, Barrett’s résumé reads like an adrenaline junkie’s dream. But today, he’s steering toward something slower and deeper.

From Set to Cellar

Barrett Family Wines isn’t a vanity label. It’s a deeply hands-on project where Stanton applies the same precision he’s used in stunt rigs and pit strategy to fermentation curves and barrel selection.

“I’ve always pushed boundaries,” he says. “In racing, in film, now in wine.”

The connection isn’t just a metaphor. In our interview, Barrett talks about how his background taught him to experiment, take creative risks, and chase excellence. That mindset shows up in his winemaking, whether he’s barreling Sauvignon Blanc or blending unusual oak profiles, he doesn’t shy away from challenging conventional opinion.

The Ethereal Project

It’s not all about the bottle. One of Barrett’s most personal projects is Ethereal Sauvignon Blanc Reserve, a wine designed to raise funds and awareness for causes close to his heart. The butterfly-themed label is more than aesthetic—it symbolizes transition, memory, and giving back.

With proceeds supporting charitable partners like the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation, Ethereal has become a philanthropic anchor for the brand. “I wanted to create something beautiful that could do some good in the world,” Barrett says.

An Artist’s Mindset

Every detail is intentional, from custom foil embossing to the texture of the label paper. Barrett doesn’t just make wine. He designs it. His visual storytelling background as a director shows through.

“My approach is always layered. Wine isn’t just flavor. It’s story, it’s setting, it’s soul.”

What’s Next?

With new vineyard contracts in Sonoma, Napa, and Temecula, Barrett is expanding both reach and range. His Artist Series Merlot and Russian River Pinot Grigio are just the beginning of what promises to be a growing catalog rooted in precision, creativity, and a little rebellion.

Even as the wine world takes notice, Barrett stays focused on long-haul success. “This isn’t a side gig,” he says. “It’s a real business built on hard work, and we’re just getting started.”
